Notes from Port:
Warm thanks to the team at Safe Harbor Wentworth Marina in Newcastle, NH for their hospitatily and support. We are proud Safe Harbor members and always grateful for the exceptional service across the network. Early morning Captian Tim prepared MagicTime and got her ready for departure.
Course:
Departed Newcastle at noon on the ebb tide, cruising south past the Isles of Shoals and along the New Hampshire and Massachusetts coastlines. Conditions were extraordinary — glassy seas, brilliant sunshine, and a light northerly at 6 mph. A straight shot to the tip of Cape Cod, arriving Provincetown Harbor at 3:25 PM.
Crew Notes:
Spirits high aboard from the moment we left the dock. Ivey settled in on deck and barely moved for three and a half hours as she was “attached at the hip” as they say, a very good sign about the sea state. First Mate’s verdict: one of the finest passages MagicTime has made.
Ashore in Provincetown:
With less than 24 hours in port we made every minute count. After settling into our slip at Provincetown Waterfront Marina, Ivey led us straight into town for a walk along the famous Commercial Street.
First stop: the Pilgrim Monument It’s the tallest all-granite structure in the United States at 252 feet, built 1907–1910 and commemorating the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landfall in 1620. We climbed all 116 steps and 60 ramps to the top, where MagicTime was visible in the harbor below and the full sweep of the Atlantic opened to the north. Worth every step.
Back aboard for provisions and an extraordinary family moment: a call with our son revealed he had just gotten engaged. Champagne was found. The harbor sparkled outside the portholes. Some passages deliver more than nautical miles.
Dinner at Ross’ Grill, second floor of Whalers Wharf revealed harbor views, legendary people watching, and the best table in Provincetown. ☎ (508) 487-8878
Morning departure fuel: Provincetown Portuguese Bakery, 299 Commercial St A Ptown favorite featuring espresso, Portuguese bread breakfast sandwiches, malasadas. Lines cast at 9:50 AM.
Remarks:
A perfect summer passage — glass seas, blue skies, and one of the great harbors of the New England coast. Provincetown in less than 24 hours is never enough, but what a 24 hours it was.
Next Port of Call: Newport, Rhode Island — Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard
